Lumber Packer

Purpose

How does the position contribute to the success of the operation, division and company?

The objective of the green chain is to receive lumber that is 8’ or shorter that is sent down from the trimmer to be manually stacked in the appropriate loads, which are separated by size.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures What measures or metrics will the individual be measured on and what level of performance is required?  Other duties may be assigned.

The green chain/ Chipper operator continually monitors the dropout chute from the trimmer. This includes but is not limited too:

• Trim block belt and conveyor.
• All waste conveyors.
• Chipper.
• Sawdust and chip conveyor.
• Drop out chute from trimmer
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Instructions

• Green chain operator needs to be able to safely pull the lumber onto railcarts at the rate of production.
• Green chain operator needs to follow sawmill stacking standards for width and course height.
• Operator needs to separate each course with properly laid stickers.
• Green chain operator needs to separate stacks based on lumber dimensions.
• Stacks must have full length boards on bottom layer of each unit and outside of each course.
• Green chain operator needs to safely lockout, use safety belt, and remove metal from the metal detector for the chipper.
• Also remove any obstructions from the trimmer trim block conveyors, and waste conveyors.
• Daily Hyster check.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Lock out/Tag out trained.
• Must be SAFETY minded while working in a production environment.
• Lifting and physical activity is required for this position, must be able to move boards and wood pieces.
